Layar AR Evaluation

In this evaluation, I'm going to talk about my work, showing what I did, comparing my poster to professional examples, reflecting upon the skills I have learnt and used, reflect what I think about the future uses and success of Augmented Reality like if this technology here to stay, if it is just a gimmick, if can be a commercial success and if everyone interacts with it.

This was the poster that I made. I pick up some images and pull all together in one poster.

Put a black background and on the right side I put the platform where the series play, the name of the series and the season that it is. Put a big profile picture of the main character on the side, in the top I put also the photo from other important characters from the series; on the top left I put the Layar symbol to connect the poster to the phone.

To do this poster I had to learn some skills in Photoshop, since was the first time that I had to do one poster almost from scratch. I had to learn to cut images from their background, applying different layers in one poster, trying of to blend and buffing in everything together. I tried to do something similar with the type of posters that I saw from the series, normally every poster is simple with some simple colours, with one background colour (normally black, white or red).

I also get to know how to use Layar App, since was the first time that I worked with that app, I had to watch some tutorials to try to do the best using what Layar present.

Before I did this project I searched different posters that could work with augmented reality, and a research about what is augmented reality and the different fields that you could use (http://inesmartins5696.wixsite.com/inesmartins/single-post/2017/02/27/Augmented-Reality--Layar).

I think that comparing with professionals, my poster is still simple and could be more elaborate, but I think that today posters like this could be a success, since that go straight to the point showing the trailer and don't give too much information to people that never watched and maybe can get confused about it.

For example, this poster for the "Electrical Transmission of Power of Nikola Tesla", where the poster is also simple, with just one colour on the background, the image of the engineer, the title of what they are going to talk about and only a video that go straight to the message that they want to pass to the public.

In my opinion, this technology still needs to grow a lot to be a huge success that everyone uses, but I think that this technology is here to stay. I think specific in advertisement that is going in a good way, but still needs to grow to be a success that everyone is going to use, like for example, in South Korea exists already a virtual supermarket but a big number of people still likes more the normal way to go to the supermarket.

To call more the attention to this type of technology I think that the main media, like internet and television, should start using to communicate to their viewers, and like that call the attention to different targets. In cinema and music they could use this type of technology more in posters or cd covers, for example, Maroon 5 used to scan their album I like that you could see a music video in your phone; or Metallica that used AR to announced their movie in cinemas.
