In this essay I would be talking what is a podcast, what types of podcast exits, some examples of each podcasts and also explain each example that I gave before.

What is a podcast?

A podcast is an episodic series of digital media files. The word is the join of 2 words "iPod + Broadcast".

Types of podcast:

There are four types of podcast known:

  • Audio Podcast

Is the most commonly known. Normally are present in an MP3 format and can be found in different variations of computers and portable media devices, like Podcast Apps or even on Youtube.

One example of "audio-only podcast" is Welcome to Night Vale (www.welcometonightvale.com), that is a podcast that comes out twice at month in the

style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers and cultural events.

This podcast have another podcasts associate with the writers of this one, like:

Alice Isn't Dead (is a new fiction serial from the creator of Welcome to Night Vale, follows a truck driver in his search across America for the wife she had long assumed was dead. In the course of the search, she will encounter not-quite-human serial murderers, towns literally lost in time, and a conspiracy that goes way beyond one missing woman).

or Within the Wires (it's a new serial fiction podcast from the team behind Welcome to Night

Vale and Alice Isn't Dead. Set within an alternate reality, tells stories in the guise of instructional audio programs. Season one, "relaxation cassettes" is a 10 part scripted fiction podcast that takes the form of an audio course an full body relaxation issued by The Institute to you, (the listener) a nameless medical inmate. Who is this narrator? Is she relaying something more than just relaxation techniques, and is she to be trusted? And are there subliminal messages hidden within the music? As listeners move through the relaxation curriculum a deeper and more personal story unravels).

  • Video Podcast

Another type of podcast is in video format, that can be called vidcast or voscast, and can include video clips.

An example of video podcast is The SourceFed Podcast (www.youtube.com/user/Sourcefed), is a video podcast that also has an audio version in soundcloud, where the SourceFed team (four at a time) seat together and talk about different themes, can be personal or public knowledge, like their talking with friends without a camera.

  • Political Podcast

This type of podcast focuses on current events, lasts usually half an hour to an hour. For example the NPR Politics Podcast (www.npr.org/podcast/510310/npr-politics-podcast), where

NPR's political reporters talk with the public weekly roundups and quick takes on news of the day, national and international.

  • Podcast Novel

It's similar to a traditional fiction and it's recorded into episodes that are delivered online a

period of time, also called audiobook.

For example, The Serial Podcast (www.serialpodcast.org/season-one). In this podcast, already with two seasons at this day, hosted by Sarah Koenig.

In the season one they describe an investigation of a homicide where 15 years later Sarah tries to investigate to discover if Adnan is guilty or not of Hae's murder. Sarah presents evidences, testimonials, paper's from the trial, etc... (It's Baltimore, 1999. Hae Min Lee, a popular high-school senior, disappers after school one day. Six weeks later detectives arrest her classmate and ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, for her murder. He says he's innocent though he can't exactly remember what he was doing on the January afternoon. But someone can, a classmate at Woodlawn High School says knows where Adnan was. The trouble is, she's nowhere to be found).

  • Music Podcast

In this type of podcast, like the tittle says, is about music, it's a podcast where one or more persons join together to talk about, can be specific like the example that I'm going to give:

The first example is Screw It! We're Just Gonna Talk About The Beatles and in this podcast a few friends from the Los Angeles Comedy Scene (with Will Hines, Curtis Gwinn, Joel Spence and Ariana Lenarsky) discuss about The Beatles, an album at time; it's a limited podcast

where they going to talk about all of the Beatles albums, showing some of the best musics inside that album. The podcast start January 12, 2017, and is going out every Thursday in http://beatlestalk.libsyn.com/podcast.

They already talked about 2 albums, first "Please, Please Me" and "With the Beatles".

The other example is Rolling Stone Music Now, that is a music podcast with the writers and editors of Rolling Stone and they take us inside the biggest stories in the music world; they do interviews, play some hits, talk about the biggest music news, etc.

It's a podcast that is in the internet since January 25th, 2016 and can be considered a second part of one favorite music magazines in the world (http://www.rollingstone.com/topic/podcast).
