Shoot The Moon- Something Like This

Music Video Evaluation

In this evaluation I'm going to evaluate myself and my group, I'm going to talk about the production process, how we worked together, if the result was what we expected, what inspired us for making the music video, etc.

For our music video our clients didn't ask for any theme specific, they just wanted the video to be different, fun, they wanted something new. In our search we had some ideas like doing something in the same theme as Alice in Wonderland or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to be a real world and a fake world in the other side, and they liked the way that we where going.

Since the beginning our ideas change a little through the project, first because the first storyboard was draw and though for 7 people and at the end we just had one to do it.

For this project we did a lot of research, we saw other music videos from other bands that we felt were what the client was looking for, we also ask a lot of questions to the band to know what they wanted and how they wanted us to do it; we searched for people, like actors or anyone that wanted to do the project with us.

What inspired us to do our music video after all that research, was the music video from Melbourne Ska Orchestra "Lygon Street Meltdown". That music video was the one that more inspired us because was something different and we need something that we could use the studio and only one person.

With the end of this project we got to develop some skills and new techniques that we learn with this project. Because most of the time we film outside we didn't need that much to care about the light and adjusting; in a studio we need to do that and with this project was the first time that we filmed alone in the studio using the green screen. The skills, in my opinion, that we develop with this work was that we now know how to communicate with professionals and sometimes how difficult or different from what we planning.

In the end I realize that the part that we should studied more or get more information next time is using the green screen, what lights to use and how we need to display them.

For our video we used some close ups shots to show some parts that we thought was important to show like his fingers while he played, his face while he was entering and going out the "fake world". We also used some still shots to show where we danced, how he played the instruments, how he run, how he got up to the ladder; we edited our video in black and white, "playing" a little with the contrast and brightness, what give that effect that we have in our video.

Materials for this project we just use cardboard to do the instruments because first we couldn't had all of the instruments in real life, just the easy one's like a guitar, a bass, the drums. We found some cardboard in the arts store, then Kerrie drew all the instruments and paint them, in between me and Anna cut all the instruments. I think they worked successfully because made the video funny and, even that they weren't real, give that vibe and that was we wanted.

Our music video didn't had a meaning or a specific message to pass through the public, but what we wanted to show their was that can exist two different worlds: one "real world" that can be boring, gloomy but when the subject grabs the hat and put on his head he travels to the second world, to a "fake world" were we can do wherever he wants and where everything is possible.

I feel that our music video is being successful and we are getting good reviews from other persons and in youtube a lot of people are watching our music video. Also the band send us an email and they said that if we had more ideas for future videos from other songs that we could, maybe, worked with them again. For me, the main audience target is teenagers and young adults, because in my opinion are the people who right now use more the social media and that are always or most of the time listen music and share stuff. Today I think music videos are going back to be a think that people watch and are interested in.

This was some of the reviews that we received for our worked: first the email where they said "Really love the video. We are going to put together a release strategy and get the video out over the next couple of weeks as an official one. Fantastic work, really love the concept. If you have any ideas for other STM songs then we would be more than happy to work with you again"; the second was the official release statement by STM "Massive credit to Kerrie Sloper, Ines Martins & Anna McGuinness for producing something so well thought out and creative. Also huge props to Ensor Taylor who absolutely killed the performance!".

As a group I think we worked really well, everyone could give their opinion and ideas, everyone could work with what they wanted, and we could worked together and have a product that we are proud of.

I think in our situation the group worked effectively and, obviously for next projects and maybe next works with clients would be better and better and we are going to grow our techniques and skills but for the first time that we worked in something like this I think that we did a good job and I'm proud of what we have done.
